The Department of Education and Skills has instructed all schools to close until next Monday 5th March. Our school will therefore remain closed tomorrow, Thursday and Friday.

4th, 5th and 6th classes have been battling it out over the last six weeks in our annual school quiz. Well done to all the children and to Mr. Dowling for organising same. Sarah Gorman retained her title and is the school quiz champion for 2018.
3rd and 4th class will visit Dunamaise on Wednesday 28th February for a show for engineers week. Just what exactly do scientists and engineers do? How do planes fly? How can we see through the dust in space? How do engineers make playgrounds safer to play in? How are they saving the planet? This show explores the superpowers of scientists and engineers as we look at difference they make to our lives. The cost is €5 per child. The bus will leave at 12.20pm as the show is on from 12.45pm-1.45pm.
The Laois spelling Bee is being hosted by the Heath National School again this year. It takes place on Monday 26th February. Patrick O' Callaghan is representing the school. We wish him the best of luck
A Hurling Blitz takes place on Tuesday 27th February at the Centre of Excellence, Portlaoise. The blitz will begin at 11am and finish at approximately 1pm. Players from 4th, 5th and 6th class will play
Enda O Reilly an Enviromental songwriter will run a workshop with 5th class on Tuesday 20th February. He will sing a few songs and discuss topics around climate change, CO2, land use, renewable energies etc. He will arrive into the school around 9.30am for two 1 hour workshops.
January/February is Science Month and there are activities going on in each class. On Thursday 22nd February each class will pair with their partner class to share four experiments they have completed over the last month.
On Friday 23rd February Dr. Ken Farquhar is coming in. He is performing a Circus Skills show in the hall for all classes. He will take the kids on a voyage of discovery investigating how performers make use of many specific principles in their tricks and stunts. The cost is €4 per child. This Wednesday 21st is the last week for swimming. 1st and 6th class have swimming at 10.15am and will leave at 9.40am. 2nd and 6th class have swimming at 11am and will leave at approx. 10.20am. The cost is €40 per child for 7 weeks swimming. This can be paid via the online link or in the office. On swimming days children should wear their school tracksuit and smaller children can wear their swimming togs underneath coming to school.
Our lunchtime Chess club on Mondays after Christmas. Children from 3rd to 6th class are welcome to learn to play the game and play in the school league and championship. 4 players will head to The Rock National School on Wednesday 28th February. The competition takes place from 10.45am-1.45pm
