After Easter Home Learning Pack

Dear Parents,

I hope this finds you and your family well at this extraordinary time. I am writing to you with regard to the third term of our school year.

While schools are currently to remain closed up until 19th April it seems very unlikely that schools will be allowed to re-open on Monday 20th April. We are preparing therefore for the very likely continuation of school closures into the third term of the year.

Based on the feedback we received from parents, through the parental survey, we are offering a more structured approach to learning after Easter. In short, each class teacher will be providing a suggested timetable of work, Monday to Friday, which we will be encouraging all children to engage with. This will be uploaded to the “Seesaw” app and will also be available on the school website under the “Coronavirus Closure Resources” and by choosing Senior Infants. The “Seesaw app” will also have additional optional activities and it is a way for students’ to show me their completed work. Initially the focus after Easter will be on revision however if the school closure continues it will become necessary to move onto new learning content.

Most of the work will require access to a tablet or laptop and in particular parents will need to download the SeeSaw app. When downloading the app parents should firstly download the family app to their own device. A code will then be sent for parents to download Seesaw home learning for their child’s device where the learning activities will be posted. A detailed description of this is given below.

Engage as much as you can. We understand that not every family will be in a position to participate in all activities or perhaps have the technology required. As a staff, we understand this and value every family’s decision equally. There is no obligation on families to complete the activities and work we will suggest however we do believe that they will be beneficial to your child for when school re-opens. The main focus for everyone however, should be on keeping safe and healthy during this time.

The connection between home and school is very important to us and we hope that our new approach will strengthen that connection and be of support to children and parents.

This pack aims to let you know how I will be interacting with you and your child in the third term until school re-opens and to give you a chance to get set up before the 20th April.

Things you need to know:I will be using the following platform to upload lessons: SeeSawSchool website under Senior Infant tab

I will upload my lessons each week on:Sunday nights
Here are the teachers that are available to support your child:Ms. Daly & Ms. Leen

Assessing WorkI would love to see photographs of the children’s work. I will offer praise and encouraging feedback for all efforts. I will be asking families for help in some assessments by asking you to take pictures of the work completed by the children.  The Seesaw app will be used for this as I can comment on the children’s work for them to see.
Accessing Seesaw and Other ResourcesSchool Website

  • I will upload a weekly timetable of work broken down into daily activities onto the school website every Sunday night. You will find the timetable here starting Sunday 19th April:
https://heathns.weebly.com/senior-infants1.html
  • Every week I will upload activities on Seesaw and provide feedback on work sent to me via the app.

Step by Step Seesaw Guide:

  1.  Follow this link https://app.seesaw.me/s/155-992-167
  2. Choose your child’s name from the class list.
  3. Click “OK”.
  4. Sign in (If your child is already using Seesaw in another class please use your own login) or create a new account (majority of people will be creating a new account)
  5. Download the “Seesaw Family” app from the App Store/Google Play Store or if you are using a computer/laptop, visit  web.seesaw.me. and sign in. Children will not use the Seesaw family app.
  6. Once downloaded, select ‘I’m a family member’ and sign into your account that you just created. Here you can view your child’s work discreetly and communicate with me privately.

I will then approve your account and you as a parent will be connected to our class.
After this stage, you will then receive a private message from me which you will find in the inbox.  In this message, I will send you further instructions and an individual “home learning code” in order to add your child to the Seesaw class app.  This is where they will access work and activities I set for the class, I will also be able to provide feedback through this platform.

I have included an FAQ on Seesaw remote learning below if you would like to find out more.

Textbooks
All school books are available on the publishers websites but where possible I will include a link or upload a photo of the page in question.

ConsentIt is very important for parents to note that by accessing the invitation above that you are consenting to your child’s use of the SeeSaw application and the subsequent interactions between home and school staff.  It is important to note that only you and your child can see their own work, you will not see the work of other students and they will not see your child’s work.  Ms. Leen and I will be able to see the work of all our students as we have teacher access.
Any other questions?Feel free to contact me regarding teaching and learning through the SeeSaw application or at aislingdaly@theheathns.com  and I will get back to you as quickly as I can but at latest within 24 hours.  Please don’t feel under pressure with this, we are all learning (including me) and there may be some teething problems at the beginning which is to be expected. I miss all of children very much and hope this will help us to work as best as we can in these strange times.

If you have any non-teaching/learning concerns please contact office@theheathns.com or you can phone the school secretary Monday to Friday between 10am - 11am on 0861806094.
