After Easter Home Learning Pack
Dear Parents,
I hope this finds you and your family well at this extraordinary time. I am writing to you with regard to the third term of our school year.
While schools are currently to remain closed up until 19th April it seems very unlikely that schools will be allowed to re-open on Monday 20th April. We are preparing therefore for the very likely continuation of school closures into the third term of the year.
Based on the feedback we received from parents, through the parental survey, we are offering a more structured approach to learning after Easter. In short, each class teacher will be providing a suggested timetable of work, Monday to Friday, which we will be encouraging all children to engage with. Initially the focus after Easter will be on revision however if the school closure continues it will become necessary to move onto new learning content.
Engage as much as you can. Not every family will be in a position to participate in all activities or perhaps have the technology required. As a staff, we understand this and value every family’s decision equally. There is no obligation on families to complete the activities and work we will suggest however we do believe that they will be beneficial to your child for when school re-opens. Everyone's main focus however should be on keeping safe and healthy during this time.
The connection between home and school is very important to us and we hope that our new approach will strengthen that connection and be of support to children and parents.
This pack aims to let you know how I will be interacting with you and your child(ren) in the third term until school re-opens and to give you a chance to get set up before the 20th April.
Things you need to know:I will be using the following platforms to upload lessons: Aladdin App and See Saw I will upload my lessons on Aladdin each week on: (I will upload a daily challenge/activity on see saw)Sunday nights
Here are the teachers that are available to support your child:Ms. Ging & Ms. Parkinson.
1.Breakfast & exercise: Before any home learning gets done, it's a good idea to eat your breakfast and get in some movement or exercise.■ Go for a quick walk, do some stretches or any exercise you enjoy.■ Every morning at 9am, Joe Wicks, the Body Coach is doing a live workout for kids on his YouTube Channel
2.Core Subjects:These are English, Gaeilge and Maths. It’s a good idea to start with these each day. In general don’t spend more than 20-30 minutes on each subject. Please contact me if it is taking longer than this to complete these activities.
NOTE: This session should take no more than 10 minutes per year of the child's age, (i.e. 5 year olds no more than 50 minutes)
3. Break Time: It's important to take a break. Make sure to have a snack and to try and get outside for some fresh air.
4. School On TV: Every day at 11am, RTE2 is showing School on TV.
5.Project/Research Work: I’ll be asking the children to complete different projects/tasks in the coming weeks.
6.Lunch Time: It's important to eat their lunch. They should try and get outside if they can too.
7.Free Time: School work should be completed by now. Children, of course, can continue with projects or research and have some downtime. Please encourage your child to read as often as possible. Ideally they should read daily but do encourage them as much as possible and do what works best in your home. The content doesn't really matter as long as they are reading at their own level.
Suggested Time Table for 5th class students:
Assessing WorkI would love to see photographs of the children’s work and projects. I will offer praise and encouraging feedback for all efforts. I will be asking families for help in some assessments by asking you to check if your child’s answers are correct, and that appropriate levels of effort are shown for the work being completed at home. I will provide feedback where appropriate.
Accessing Seesaw and Other Resources

Once you are connected to our class, you will then receive a private message from me on the family app which you will find in the inbox. In this message I will send you further instructions and an individual home learning code in order to add your child to the Seesaw class app where they will be able to access class work and activities.
